LEGACY GIVING
A Lasting Gift of Music
For centuries, the voices of Choristers have filled Wells Cathedral. A legacy gift, no matter the size, becomes part of something enduring: a living tradition of excellence that continues to enrich lives, both within the Cathedral and far beyond.
The mission of the Wells Cathedral Chorister Trust is to ensure, as best we can, that there are no lost voices for financial reasons. We aim to widen access to the Choir with the provision of bursaries, creating opportunities for musical children and making sure the choir remains a diverse reflection of the community and society within which we live.
Your Legacy, Their Future
By remembering the Wells Cathedral Chorister Trust in your Will, you can help nurture the musical and personal development of young Choristers for generations to come. Your gift will provide vital support for this living heritage and contribute to the education, training, and wellbeing of Choristers, enabling them to flourish both as musicians and as individuals.

Why Your Support Matters
Becoming a Chorister is a life-changing experience. It demands dedication, discipline, and passion, but it also offers exceptional opportunities. Choristers receive outstanding musical training, academic support, and the chance to be part of something truly special.
Your legacy can help to:
Provide scholarships and financial assistance
Maintain the highest standards of musical training
Support the individual development of each Chorister
Sustain the Cathedral’s choral tradition for future generations
A Gift that Endures
-
Legacies are a powerful way to make a difference without affecting your financial security during your lifetime. After providing for your loved ones, even a small percentage of your estate can have a profound and lasting impact.
-
You can leave us a gift by:
writing a new will and including a gift to our charity
amending your existing will via a simple Codicil form
completing a (non-binding) letter of wishes to us and your solicitor for when you next update your will.
Please tell your solicitor that you wish to leave a gift to The Wells Cathedral Chorister Trust (registered charity in England & Wales number 1098277).
-
Many supporters choose to leave:
· A share of their estate (a residuary gift)
· A fixed sum of money
· A specific asset
-
Planning your will is an important personal decision, and we encourage you to seek independent advice when making or updating your arrangements.
If you would like to learn more about will writing, legacy giving, or tax-efficient ways to support charities, the following information gives guidance:
“If you love the Cathedral and if you love the music, you would know that without the Choristers, the music would not have the same character. We go to services and we listen to what is effectively world-class. music. If it wasn’t for the Choristers, I doubt whether that would be there. So if you have something inside you, which tells you that this is important. That’s why you want to support the Chorister Trust.”

“Being a Chorister at Wells Cathedral was a life changing experience and one that we should ensure continues for the generations that follow us. It seemed entirely appropriate to leave a legacy for the benefit of those future generations when I was so privileged to have had such a remarkable experience in my lifetime.”
